Stoneman's Raid

                           General George Stoneman's U.S. cavalry skirmished
with Confederates near here
(Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina)
on April 17, 1865 on their
raid through western North Carolina.

The Historic Marker is located between the two
lanes of traffic on Hwy. 64-18 going toward Lenoir
from Morganton, before crossing the Catawba River.
